The other day I went by the local restoration shop to check on my '74 shortbed and spotted a '58 Dodge Sweptside!  It was two-tone blue/white (re painted) and had a 318 wide block in it being rewired and interior worked on.  I've heard of them and seen pictures, but never seen one in person.  Didn't Dodge build them only 3 years?  I know they're rare, but does any one know the production numbers?  Maybe it's just me, but I get excited when I see something odd or rare.  When I've got my camera with me I'll try and snap some pics.

Got to be rare (I've never seen one) like the Chevy "Camino" P/U in the 50's. A guy around here has a Dodge "The Dude" P/U I keep trying to catch a photo of (late 60's early 70's "survivor") It's not just you..I got the bug too!

As a matter of fact the Dodge Sweptside from '57 to '59 was direct competition for Chevy's Cameo pick up, and the bed design came directly from a '57 Sierra? station wagon (I do know at least that much).  Those Dude edition Dodges are sharp looking too though, I think remember seeing an ad for the Dude truck somewheres with Don Knotts on it.  :scratchchin: Doesn't a member here have a Dude or am I thinking about Mopar Muscle Mag?

Ouch that hurts. I had a chance to buy a complete one of these in 2002 for $500 after the owner of the yard died. His son immediately began selling and scrapping everyting in the place.I remember thinking it was an unusual truck but never gave it a second thought as I wasn't interested in any old trucks at the time. I wish I would have been this thing was complete and not missing a thing, although the original engine was sittig in the back of it.

Still would have been one to grab, eh? Oh well. Live and learn. I didn't know anything about these trucks until this post was started. :shruggy:

Exactly I just remembered thinking I've never seen a Dodge truck like this before? I had no idea of it's rarity.

It might be this one, that I found in a junkyard in Alberta back in 2004.
I was contacted by several people after the picture was posted on a "Cars in Barns" webpage.
And of course, I shared the location with the interested parties.

That JY one is a Fargo. If you think the Dodge version is rare.... Personally I like that era of truck but I prefer the normal stepside versions.

Well, like Bull said you do live and learn.  Dad always said he never thought that his '66 Satellite (426 Hemi) would be worth anything and how rare it was.  Nothing more than just a Plymouth that you ran the dog **** out of driving and drag racing.  He got rid of it for nothing like most people did back then. 20/20
