What would a lower resistance ballast do to the coil and/or ecu?
What if it were a higher performance coil?

Chryco Psycho

less resistance increases the voltage to the coil , same with the ECU but most new ECUs are 4 pin & do not use the ballast anymore
more voltage to the coil increases the voltage of the spark delivered , But can shorten the life of the coil wether it is a standard or high output coil

Ghoste

So not likely needed on the street unless you are running into a very high compression engine or supercharged or anything else that can blow out the fire?

I went with a lower voltage resistor and it helped on my low CR 440. Now the car may have some other problem and that just covered it up, but it did help. The voltage went up about 2 volts at the coil..after it warms up..it'll go up as it gets warm.
