I have always liked the 1st Gen Montes. Went to high school with a guy that had one and always thought it was a pretty sweet car. I just found this one about 15 miles from home. Talked to the owner and just waiting for him to get a key to get in his brothers back yard (he is on vacation). Looks like a nice project for me and my son. Anyone here ever owned one of these 1st gens.

edit: Just got a call from the owner and I am going to look at it in 2hrs.  :2thumbs:
I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friend
"That's us in 10 years".
He said "That's a mirror, dip-shit!

Looks like a real solid project. I always like the monte carlos too. Stuff a 454 in it and it's a force to be reckoned with.

Just got back from looking at it. Had to pass on it for now because we couldn't get the hood open. Spent about a half hour trying to open it. He went and got a pry bar and started prying on the hood  :brickwall: . Here in AZ desert you want to be able to look under there and make sure the wonderful pack rats haven't chewed up all the wiring. Overall it was a very solid car with the ugliest baby blue interior I have ever seen. For now I will just keep looking and maybe check back with him in a few days to see if he got it open and still has it.

For $1500 I'd have loaded it on the trailer and drug it home, packrats and all !

And for the record...

I HATE CHEVIES!!!

Go back and get it before Billie Bob srews up the hood, grille and everything else he

can jamb his little prybar into!

obviously this guy wants more for his restored monte. Perhaps 68coronetGLwannabe wants a project for himself rather than buying already finished project

Perhaps, or perhaps he might find a nice one a lot cheaper than what it would take to restore that one. I agree with Daytona R/T SE, For $1500 I'd have probably loaded it on the trailer, but I'd look at all other possibilities. The on in the link is a 50k mile car.

Well good news. Going to pick it up tomorrow morning. He knocked a few hundred of the price so I snagged it up. This one will have to wait a little while until I get the 69 Charger put back together.  :2thumbs:

Have you ever popped the hood on a 71 monte? (i know, obviously you didn't pop the hood on this one, but have you ever peeked under the hood of one at a show or cruise?)

ANY ENGINE YOU CAN IMAGINE WILL FIT IN THERE.  There is at least a foot between the waterpump and rad.  check out the windtunnel fan shroud they use.  I worked with a guy in HS who had a mint green one.  factory correct down to the hose clamps.  It was a sweet car.

I cant believe nobody noticed the yellow duster in the background! :scope:  I believe there is a half covered baracuda on the other side of the fence behind the Monte. Maybe tommorow I can snap a few pics.

Not sure because after further inspection the whole front clip was gone. Just  part of the rear was uncovered. Sorry no pics of the Duster because  I ran off and left the camera sitting at home  :brickwall:

Great find and at that price I wouldnt care whats under the hood. The fact its been in Phoenix its whole life is awesome. If that were an old Pontiac at that price and I saw this thread you wouldnt have had a chance to rethink it  ;D
