if those who plan on selling items in the classifieds section would, AT LEAST, put where they are located somewhere.  either in their profile or in the advertisement.  on big items, it would make it easier for "me" and anyone else to determine if they want to waste the time of communicating with these people if they are actually close (geographically) to me.  I, 99% of the time, will not contact someone from new york about a transmission for $50 since i can find them around here without having to pay for shipping.  the whole "lets keep my location (even my state) a mystery" thing is just assinine if you ask me.  especially if you plan on selling something.

dont get me started on the "i dont know how to put prices to my stuff, but please make an offer" strategy.

now where is that "off me soapbox" smiley?

Maybe this thread should be a "sticky" right after the "Please read before posting" sticky in that section.
Or even a template: (1) Wadaya got?
                            (2) Whatzit gonna cost me?
                            (3) Where you at?

I agree 100%

It's very frustrating trying to guess what part of the galaxy these ass-clowns are

from.

Yes, I said ASS-CLOWNS! :flame:

ALL ads should be required to include:

What are you selling?

How much money do you want for it?

Contact information?

Where the FU@& is it located?

At least narrow it down to a state, province, country, or village.

Which is why Troy, our fearless leader, posted the following information (as a sticky no less) in the classifieds section:

Quote from: Troy on January 20, 2007, 11:47:07 AM
The Classified sections are provided to the community as a way for members to buy/sell/trade cars, parts, and just about anything else of interest. The goal is to help members find what they are missing or to unload what they don't need. These sections are not discussion forums so all comments, criticisms, and irrelevant posts will be removed. With that in mind, here are a few tips for posting an ad:
1. Provide some sort of contact information. This would normally seem obvious but it's often overlooked. You don't want to make life difficult for the person trying to buy your items OR for the person who may have that elusive part you've been searching for. Recommended methods of contact include email, phone, or private message through the site but be sure to state which one you prefer.
2. Provide as much detail as possible whether selling or buying. This greatly improves your chances of buying/selling and cuts down on the amount of questions you'll have to answer.
3. List a price or budget. For the same reason as above, you don't want to waste anyone's time - including your own. If you don't have a specific price in mind then try to come up with a range or specifically state that you don't have a set price.
4. When selling, provide pictures if possible because you'll likely get bombarded with picture requests if you don't. It's easier to upload them once than to email them 50 times.
5. Classified ads are removed on a regular basis. Most ads are available for 60 days after the last update. Keep this in mind of you've been looking for a long time or trying to sell for a while. Update your ads and the timer starts over. If the item is no longer for sale or you've found what you were looking for then please update your ad or notify a moderator so it can be removed.

Thanks,
Troy

I agree, I do like on moparts while it seems militant.... you post a price or i have seen them deleted.  To me I often look at a profile for a part, but then realize that shipping will cost what the part will.

If I sell something....from now on...I will post up my location....I think it's in my profile anyway....but just so no one has to go and look.   that IS a very good point though.

Moparts is kinda militant about it but it works.  Helps weed out the scum.

I agree, and at the same time have to admit I'm guilty of this.. I always ASSume that it's in my profile..

Then again, I always put my price and when I sell something it's always "$_____ shipped anywhere in the US", so it takes the guesswork out of it..

If you're not logged in and in "lurker" status you can't look at the profile to check location.
