I've seen this movie last Friday and all I can say: I loved this picture !!, mostly because of the wonderfull acting of Christoph Waltz, in his role of 'Jew Hunter' Col. Hans Landa.

Gonna see it again next week with my brother.  :yesnod:

I hope it's good because I plan on seeing it. I like Tarantino's stuff for the most part but I don't think anyone loves Tarantino's stuff more than he does. Our local movie reviewer said it best, "If Quentin Tarantino the director weren't so completley in love with Quentin Tarantino the writer, "Inglorious Basterds" could have been a great movie rather than just a good movie with moments of greatness." Of course I haven't seen the movie but having seen all his other flicks I know exactly what the reviewer is getting at.

Silver R/T

Not sure if it's worth watching it since they copied original "Inglorious Bastards" I've seen original and it was pretty good movie.

Of course. And if someone else were directing a film written by Tarantino the script would be getting cut like tall grass. He's getting dangerously close to the high level of "running amuck" currently enjoyed by George Lucas IMO.

Saw this saturday night,  lots of dialogue like deathproof, kinda long, but lots of good parts, though you gotta hang in there to get to them,  bring a book or something.    the next day, thinking about the movie, I would say I guess its worth seeing.   the bad guy actor is a great nemisis, his scenes are great

just needed more action, cut out half the dialogue, could have been a way better movie    :Twocents:

but I guess it was pretty cool overall

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

IMHO that's what makes a Tarantino movie. Any hack can make a movie with tons of explosions and people getting killed, but it takes an auteur like Quentin to insert brilliant dialogue - like the foot rub conversation in Pulp Fiction, the "Like A Virgin" exchange in Reservoir Dogs, and of course - Bill's "Superman" soliloquy at the end of Kill Bill:

"Bill: As you know, l'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique.
The Bride: [who still has a needle in her leg] How long does this shit take to go into effect?
Bill: About two minutes, just long enough for me to finish my point. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak... he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race. Sorta like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plimpton."

With "Death Proof" he already got there IMHO.

The only thing making it any easier to sit through than a Star Wars prequel is the fact that QT's excess happens to be witty dialogue.  That particular excess passes the time better than most, but it doesn't mean he's not way over the line with it.

I might even argue that GL and QT have complementary strengths & weaknesses.  Give QT some dialogue & directing duties on a GL storyline & production, and you might really have something.

I just saw it today, it was a good movie, worth seeing. However, if you can't read too well you will be lost. It wasn't as good as Pulp Fiction but I think it was about on par with Reservoir Dogs.

you know, actually the dialogue wasn't that bad,  the nazi hero kid had good scenes, hitler, the basement bar, etc.
it wasn't that bad, just don't know what it was that made it seem long or slow, maybe it was, or I was just tired, saw a 1030 show that got out about 1:20 am,

I don't mind witty dialogue if it's actually witty. "Death Proof" is a good example of a whole lot of nothing followed by 20 minutes of entertainment. I just wish he'd figure out a way to incorporate the two better. "Pulp Fiction" and "Dogs" were very good but I wonder if he'll ever do something as good again. Seems as if he's got the same problem as M. Knight Shyamalan; one or two hits right out of the gate and then a series of mediocre schlock.

Mike DC

No amount of witty dialogue could have excused the story structure of DeathProof.  It was just JarJar-Binks-stupid of Quentin to think that he was releasing a decent movie.

The whole movie could (should) have been knocked down to fit in a 1-hour television timeslot.

Of course, knocking both "Deathproof" and "Planet Terror" down to 1 hour apiece might have made a legitimate hit out of the enture "Grindhouse" thing, but I digress  .  .  .

Welp, I saw I.B. last night and I loved it! The Characters were fully developed and some sceans, though long had the gripping amount of suspense that made up for any (percived) lack of action. Talk about "Revisionist History"!
I think it's shorter to note the few weak moments then the majority of the movie which Rocked Hard...
The Italian language parts were pretty over done and a couple other points,.. but overall It's the best Movie Quentin has done in a long long time...
That Bar sequence was Superb!
and the the three ladies were easy on the eyes too.  :shruggy:
did anyone else recognise the voice on the other end of the phone when the "Deal" is made?..  :popcrn:

I can't asnwer your question but I do have one of my own. Were my eyes deceiving me when I thought I saw Mike Meyers in one of the online clips for this movie? I haven't bothered to wade through the cast list yet.

Brock Samson

yup you r correct sir,.. the audiance went into sustained guffaws for a few moments..  :smilielol:
he played a Brit OSS officer with a bad skin condition...    I wonder what kinda weed they smoke in the planning meetings..

bordin34

I noticed Harvey Keitel on the phone and Samuel L. Jackson giving some info about the film chemicals.

Well, I can see why the Allies would want a British secret agent collecting intelligence during WWII. He's got access to a time machine and everything.

I remember once reading a figure that Harvey Kietel appeared in 30 different movies during the decade of 1990-2000.

No kidding. I was watching my old wedding video and damned if Harvey wasn't in the picture.  :smilielol:

Seriously, "Bad Lieutenant" is a Keitel classic.

I remember seeing that movie back in mid 90's?    It was rated above R, don't know
if that is x or what, (or NC-17)but the version I saw was over the top on smoking off foil, and language, and I guess violence.
