This Challenger is fairly close to me so I'm interested even though the ad is very poor. I've emailed the seller 3 times asking if I could come look at the car, pay cash in person, and given them my number to contact me. Lets just say they're none response has me thinking it's bogus. :scratchchin: I'd like to see if these people will respond to some of the you who are not so local. Check it out and let me know what you come up with. :popcrn:

I'm not so local... I'm in England. I asked if they'd be ok with shipping to the UK!

I'll let you know what happens...  :scratchchin:

Go Hogs Go

This morning I looked at the auction and the SOB cancelled my bid along with several others and said he had to review everyone's feedback. I just bid again. I'm not going to let this jerk off the hook that easy. I hate all these dang scammers.
Go Hogs!

Seems like a scam since the car is worth some big money and he only posted one pic.  I sent an email and we'll see if he responds.

He'll probably think I'm the fish he's been waiting for and try and reel me in.

HERE"S MY MESSAGE:
Any other pictures of the car, back, interior, motor, trunk, underneath, close ups of sides and fenders etc.

your ad seems like a scammers since you have a nice car with one picture posted. Don't even describe what engine is in the car? Please include a picture of you in front of the car holding a current newspaper and standing on one foot.

Thanks,

Click on the report option on the site, ive turned in at least a half dozen in the last 2 weeks. Ebay seems to be on the ball and has removed every one of them within a day even with a few that I just mentioned as suspicious and/or refuses to allow pickup/viewing. Im guessing Ebay does attempt to validate as soon as there reported.

Sergeant

Hmmm doesnt seem the typical scam type ad though... there usually stupid by mentioning things that stand out such as pointing out the price protection plan, overly pushing shiping and/or stating not to contact them back through the ebay account itself.

68X426

To me it seemed to have con written all over it. There is about 100 reasons for saying that, but mostly because there was no reserve.

Now that m***u has the winning bid for $255, I would love to see the seller actually accept the money and sign over title.

Man not to hi-jack but where do you live? Magnolia is literally 20 minutes up the road from me.

Go Hogs Go

I'm actually four hours from Magnolia. I live in Clarksville, but I'm sure the car is not there.

Here's the reply. $12K includes shipping anywhere in the US, but no phone number for contact.
As Sergeant was saying, he's pushing:
"We will use Vehicle Purchase Protection Program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next hours with details about your purchase."

A few pics of the car, but all very small could be from anywhere.

Told you he would think I was a good fish to reel in the line on.

Hi Leo
Thank you for your interest in my 71 Challenger. It turned out that the actual winner of the auction does not have all the funds available for the car, so if you still want to buy it, here it is for sale again. The car is located in Magnolia AR 71753. It has all the papers (complete). This was my son's car who passed away 6 months ago, it only brings me bad memories. I want this transaction to be smooth as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and I don't have much time at my disposal. The car is in perfect condition, no scratches, no special marks, no need for additional repairs what so ever, no leaks, rust free. The restoration on it was completed by the previous owner in 1999 with intentions of making it an exceptionally nice driver. It was not done to be an OE restored show poodle. The paint and body, although not perfect, is pretty nice. The hood on it now is an original 71 hood that was purchased NOS. Also, the radiator support was damaged and replaced with an NOS part. The vinyl top is thought to be the original and is in great condition. All the trim on the car is very nice including the grill bezels, hood, deck lid and quarter extension trim. All the glass is nice with the windshield having been replaced. The interior is, as you can see in the pictures attached bellow my message, very nice, having no issues I can think of. The tachometer and clock work properly. You will notice in the photos, the tires being E60 - 15's. These are extremely nice originals. Just 57,000 miles since restoration. I can say that the car runs very strong and shifts firmly, the way it is supposed to. There are no strange noises coming from the engine. It has a 4.10 Dana 60 and it will rip up a pair of tires. The car is not a clone as many have asked me, it is a true matching numbers R/T. A great car ready to be yours. The title is in my name from the day I bought this car for my son and it remained that way until today. The title is clear. Since this car was my son's I am trying my best to supply all the information that I can and if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them.
The price is $12,000 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. Regarding payment I am aware of the eBay's rules and we will use Vehicle Purchase Protection Program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. If you are interested please provide me the following informations necessary to make a decision:
-full name
-any negative feedback and if so .... for what reason .
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next hours with details about your purchase.

Thank you
Tye Preston

These are the EXACT quotes used by a seller I dealt with early this year.

The grieving father gets around. By a different name he tried selling me his son's 68 Charger in March. His location was near me in California. I snooped around and found the car (on-line) at the true seller's location in Pennsylvania. When I offered to arrive the next day to give the fake seller all cash (along with law enforcement), I never heard anything again.

I turned this over to EBay (they didn't care) and the DA in the county of the person whose ID the fake seller hijacked. I also contacted the real person whose ID was stolen for the sale. His son was very much alive and he was not selling a car.

I googled this seller. Here it is: Phonebook results for tye preston arkansas Preston Tye   (870) 234-2312   2717 Chaffin Ln,  Magnolia, AR 71753

I am sure Tye is real, but I'm sure his ID has been stolen and he was never selling a car.

It amazes me that crooks can't spend their effort on something constructive instead of these scams. It is great to have this forum to throw some light onto to the maggots.

smells fishy......  I listed a car on Craigslist recently and couldn't believe all of the scam emails I received.  "Hit this link to download more pictures....", and another common one was "I want to know how much insurance would be, please fill in the form on this link..."  Someone also posted another ad with my pictures and details! Just different contact information.

Ebay does a pretty good job looking for scams on Ebay Motors, but some slip through.  I would also recommend contacting Ebay to have them check to see for a hijacked account or status update on future potential "to good to be true" cars....

Proof of Life huh...works! We bought an enclosed trailer from Tampa area and had a friend that lives around there go and check it out before we paid...he came back with if you don't buy it I will. It's good to have someone in that area to check it out. I also agree that scammers have talent and could probably make a great living being ligit.

Sergeant

Looking for a car for my son who just turned 16, I noticed a 70 chevy for sale a couple miles from me. Now the ad says the car has been sitting in the garage for a year and will need a tune-up before it will start. I sent an email questioning this and stating that I was local and wanted to take it for a test drive. The response I got back was that the engine will need to be completly rebuilt first.... Kind of scares me away from making my Charger purchase for me thru ebay if its not close enough for me to see first and even that is questionable because apparently I would have to win (agreeing to the sale) before actually even seeing it.
