Original battery type on 2nd gen -- which is which?

There are three types of factory reproduction batteries: green cap, yellow cap and red cap. I forget which battery goes to which car but something in my memory tells me the green cap battery wasn't used on Chargers at all. Could be wrong though. The red cap battery (group 27) is the more common style and was found on the R/T cars and the 383 H-code cars IIRC. I'm thinking the yellow cap battery (group 24) was used on the G-code 383 cars and smaller but I'm not sure of that either (that's why I started this thread I guess). The green cap battery (also group 24) has all the same specs as the yellow cap battery so what was it for?

Blah, bah, blah, anyway which battery went to which cars?

From the Year One website:

Green: S24MG  1966-74 models Group 24 top-post battery with 690 CA, 550 CCA, and 135 reserve minutes. Green caps.

Yellow: S24MY  1966-74 models Group 24 top-post battery with 690 CA, 550 CCA, and 135 reserve minutes. Yellow caps.

Red: S27MR  1965-74 models Group 27 top-post battery with 930 CA, 750 CCA, and 135 reserve minutes. Red caps.

Sure, throw up a simple link that answers all my dumb questions. :icon_smile_blackeye: I don't know why Year One can't post that same info on their website.

Here's a twist though, what if I want a group 27 battery with yellow caps? Can you get just the yellow caps to trade for the red ones?

Also, is there another vendor for these OE-style batteries besides Year One?

I thought the caps were not available separately.  This may be rumor, but I seem to recall someone telling me that, because of the caps lack of availability, they frequently get swiped at car shows.

Regardless, great question.  I've wondered the same for years!~

Cool. They're $89 cheaper than Year One on the yellow cap and $159 cheaper on the red cap. :2thumbs:

Red or Yellow for all our Chargers.  On your build sheet if it says HD battery it's a group 27.  Otherwise it's a 24.
Got mine at http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/
Ordered it a few months before Carlisle a few years ago. They brought it there and I saved shipping.
There is another place I see all the time in MCG ... http://www.turbostart.com/
Their prices are pretty good but I've never dealt with them.  Anyone here?
