Hi, I would like to know what's the best way to check what gear i have in my Charger, without taking the rear end apart, the car came with 14 inch wheels, but i have 15 inches on it now, does that make a difference, Thanks   Sly

I assume you've already checked for a tag on the housing?

A383Wing

or the stamped numbers on the pad under the fill plug?

Yes, but i think the rear end gears were changed, the trans comes from a 71 Polara, and i suspect the rear end was change too,   Thanks

It's a 8-3/4 raer end

Place the transmission in Neutral, release the parking brake and raise one tire clear of the ground. If the tire will turn easily, turn the tire two full turns while counting the turns of the driveshaft...the turns of the driveshaft is your gear ratio. Example, if 2 turns of the tire turns the driveshaft about 3 1/4 turns you have 3.23 gears.

If one tire won't turn by itself you have Sure-Grip, in that case raise both tires clear of the ground and turn a tire only one turn while counting the driveshaft turns.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
