I was just talking to a gentleman at my new place of work and he informed me he has an old mopar at his house.

It's a 77 Dodge Monaco with a 440 in it. He said the motor runs strong, but the trannie is shot. He said if I was interested that he would sell me the whole car for $500. So here is my question. What can be used out of this car beside the motor?

I was also offered a 440 with Trannie for $250ish from a good friend of mine and you can't beat that deal with a stick.

So my question is. Is there anything from the Monaco worth a damn to be with the exception of the motor?

For those that say "the Monaco motor runs". I will still tear it down and do a complete rebuild. So that doesn't matter to me. The $250 deal is from a man I truly trust. This Monaco is an unknown.

What would you do?

Can you get a disc brake swap off the monaco?

Being that the tranny is shot i would go for the $250 440 unless the guy would take less for the Monaco, I wouldnt give him any more than $200 for the car but thats just my   :Twocents:

No question, I'd cough up the $750 and buy both of them   :yesnod:   Sell the Monaco's body to a demo derby guy for $400---$500 and you've got 2 440's and 727's for chump change....

Unless the Monaco is a police car, then that opens up a whole new can of worms...

To make an unbiased opinion, I think we need pics of this here Monaco. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

i totally agree with daytona R/T SE .. $750 for 2 440's, 2 727's, and a car body is worth $750 all day long, especially local

I did think of both, But I just don't have the extra bling right now. nor do I have a place to store this Monaco for long. maybe long enough to strip it and thats it.

Charger_fan. I don't have a picture of the Monaco yet. I'll try to go get one.

Can I use the rearend from the monaco? didn't even think of the disk setup  :icon_smile_big:

There could be a lot of small useable parts.  End connections.... As mentioned brakes.

Depends some people may have ordered a sure-grip,  Could very well be work something.  I think if you could do the $$ you could sell parts and come out ahead.

ill buy one of the 440s from ya if you need help!!,shouldnt be to hard to get to you from here, and i can steal a truck from the shop anytime

bull

The only thing you can use off that car for the disc brake swap are the caliper adapters and rotors, and I wouldn't use used rotors, so you're down to $500 for a 440, caliper adapters and maybe a rearend.

some of the other parts that may be usable or of some value -for resale-  off the monaco (if present)are  hideaway headlight motor, relay, p/w switches, p/w motors, p/w switch plugs/wiring, and  cruise control parts..have fun trying to find the hideaway headlight relay!  i from time to time pull many of the fore mentioned parts off of junkyard monacos for resale purposes.

I didn't think 440's were available in '77 monaco's. I thought the largest motor in a car was the 400 after 73 or 74.

hmm, don't know. I'm just going buy the infomation i've been told by it's owner, If thats true. then it's a moot point, I won't buy it at all.

Don't want a 400. Anyone know for sure about this?

I had looked at a few New Yorkers in the past, one of which was a '77 & it had a 440. I'm almost positive the smaller Fury also had the 440 as an option, like the police packages.

Here's an auction for a '77 NYer with a 440 in it.

One that's a '78 with a 440 in it:

If you can get a running & driving car for $500, I'd go for it if you have the time & energy to strip it. Remember though, it's a lot of work & winter is almost here. I say try to get both for less if you can, but then again, I have no room & no time, so don't listen to me.

440`s were available in cars thru 1978. i wouldnt go to a lot of trouble stripping the car, aside of the parts i mentioned earlier (which can be resold because of their interchangability) and the power train. you wont get squat for parts that are specific to the 77 monaco. was doing a little reading..... looks like there are two types of monacos in 1977. one  b body and one a c body (royal monaco) allpar has some good info.
