Something completely trivial I noticed in Two Lane Blacktop

I watched Two Lane again last night and for the dozens of times I've seen it, I spotted something last night that I hadn't before.  It isn't a big deal but it's so obvious it was like a smack in the head.  At the beginning when they are in the street race, the car they run is a Cuda.  The next scene James Taylor says something about the Plymouth having a Hemi with a Torqueflite.  After that line of dialogue something flashed in my puny brain about the exhaust looked strange for a Hemi car so I moved the dvd back to the race and sure enough, The Cuda had TA style mufflers on it, a TA spoiler, a flat black hood and... wait for it... an AAR stripe down the side of it.
For all these years I had alsways assumed it was a Hemi as the script reads and it was an AAR.  IIRC there was also a diecast out not too long ago that was a "Two Lane Blacktop edition Hemi Cuda as well?
Oh, and I noticed another Charger in that film besides the white 70 that passes them on the highway.  At 1:20:12 there is a 69 RT in the pits when they are at the dragstrip.  I hadn't spotted that before either.

That's the one.  There are a bunch of other Mopars in the pits too that are all fairly obvious (69 Coronet, 70 Challenger, 68 Barracudas, 66 Barracuda etc.) but everyone mainly just talks about King Daytona at the beginning and the white 70 later on.

Great movie i use to know the guy in Wichita Kansas that bought the real blacktop car 55 Chevy and the yellow coup from American Graffiti i tried my damnedest to get him to put it back to the two lane blacktop car he had the glass doors so all it need was a gray primer job but no Steve wanted the graffiti car to bad.

The Hollywood Knights Chevy was a 57 and it was a project car that belonged to Popular Hot Rodding.

PHR Called it Project-X if I remember right, There 30 year long test mule featured in many of there Articles. LEON.

Ghoste

I know it was Project "something" for sure.  X sounds right but yeah I recall a bunch of those articles.  In fact I remember when they were trumpeting about it appearing in the movie.  I went and saw it at the local drive-in based on their recommendation.

69 OUR/TEA

I remember it,thought it was yellow, and they superchargerd it.

They recently sent 'Project X' to GM's chassis facility and had an up to date frame & suspension built for it. I bet it doesn't drive like an old shoebox any more.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

hemi-hampton

Wonder if that was at GM's Tech Center right here by my house in Warren, Michigan a couple miles from my house. Would like to see it out cruising in my Neighborhood. LEON.

hemi-hampton

Supposedly there was no Script/Dialog for that Movie TWO LANE BLACKTOP. Director Monte Hellman told the Actors to just Improvise everything. That explains why I think the Dialog Sucked. LEON.

hemi24

I think the cars did all the talking to me the 55 Chevy would haul i know i rode in it a few times when steve would run it up on very rare occasion .

Ghoste

I was watching the version with directors commentary and Hellman mentioned the script so there must have been one.  He was talking about Dennis Wilson always forgetting his lines.  It probably had as much to do with using people for threee main characters who had no acting experience.

That's right. I knew there was some sort of incestious relationship among a few of these cars, movies, and magazine but I'd blurred it even more in my mind. Thanks for the correction.

Meant to say no Dialog in the script. Since they had no acting experiance guess he figured to just act natural instead of trying to act. Warren Oats had alot of acting experiance though.  LEON.
