440 casting numbers

i have a 1977 440 with the numbers 4006630 cast on the side ...would this be a just a regular garden variety 440 is more sturdy block..i had heard that the 630 block was sturdier any truth..

The chart in Don Taylor's book just lists that as a 1978 440 block.

It was also used in 77, and yes it is a good sturdy block :yesnod: In fact the 4006630 series blocks are supposedly the heaviest and sturdiest of all the 440 castings, and have the thickest cylinder walls. The strength of the metal used in the later castings is a little weaker than their 60's counterparts, but not enough to care about.
