Leaky Thermoquad?

Not sure what is going on with my carb.  I replaced the fuel filter located in the front section of the car due to noticing a small crack in it.  After that, I took the car and drove it for about 15 miles and then stopped it for a bit.  I then cranked it back up and drove it back to where I started.  I turned into the driveway and then the engine died.  It was a sound like it had run out of gas.  I coasted to the bottom of the drive and then I started smelling gas pretty strong.  I looked at the engine and noticed a pooling effect of gas around the bottom of the Thermoquad carb in the front of it.  I let the car sit for overnight and then attempted to crank it back up to no such luck.  When the key is turned, the starter turns and the motor turns, but it will not actually crank up.  When I pump the gas, I can see it spray the gas into the carb, but you can see after a while it will start pooling around the bottom of the carb on top of the intake manifold.  Anyone ever ran into this before and can steer me in the direction I need to look?

Could be a bit of dirt got in the carb with the filter change and is holding one of the floats open, causing flooding.

Did you change the fuel pump and go to a bigger pump?  TQ's don't like more than about 6 psi of fuel pressure.

Phenolic floats can get fuel logged and sink.

Just a few ideas. :Twocents:

broken bowls body &/or wells epoxy glue. Not a weird stuff on TQs.

Napa auto parts has all you need and also they sell the brass floats also..

could be as Nacho says floats could be leaking and also there are two o rings in the bowl that can go bad...dumpinf fuel Down the Carb..

Like Nacho says, it isn't all that unusual for a TQ.  They were notorious for getting hairline cracks in the float bowls that would open up when they were warm and as soon as you take the carb off to try and repair they would become virtually invisible on the now cooled off carb.
