Shifter dilema

Ok I have a Hurst Vmatic II shifter I am installing in my 73 Charger that came with a colom shift....Here is my question..I can't mount the shifter in the center of the trans hump because then I can't use my new center console without cuting a bunch of the top away...Now I can make a plate and mount it more to the left and it will fit-BUT when I cut the hole for the cable it will be off center....Will that be a problem or will it be ok the make the hole off center? Thanks.

As long as the cable isn't in a bind is should work just fine..
