Good day all,

There is a rare issue wich happens with my 440.Once the engine is warm,it starts to smell like burned oil,and the left side(Driver) header, starts to throws a bit of smoke or vapor, just like when oil falls on them or you have been touching them with your dirty hands .
If you have read my other thread, you wil know that  i have a crankshaft endplay trouble,so before to pull the engine to fix it,i did a compression test wich doesn,t seem to be bad:
#8 =160 psi    #7 =165 psi
#6= 165 psi    #5 =170 psi
#4 =165 psi    #3 =165 psi
#2 =160 psi    #1 =155 psi

Could it be the valve guides seals?

Thanks

How about a leaky valvecover gasket or an oil breather letting some of the black stuff out?

What Ghoste said.

Check pcv valve and breathers too.

I wouldn't call it an oil smell but the exhaust studs leak antifreeze sometimes and it smells and gives off smoke until it burns off.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I agree - bad seals will smoke out the tailpipes...sounds like a leak. Your compression is within 10% of each other - not bad.

Ghoste

But is it coming out the tailpipes or off of the headers?

Compression test results are fine....the rings and cylinders are in good shape.  :2thumbs:

If the oil is coming out of the exhaust it's more than likely the valve seals. Easy fix !  ;)

It is coming from the headers, from the first curve area.

Ron,i belive a easier fix is going to be to mount a couple of alumnium heads. I think the valve seals troubles would say goodbay ;)
The tuned 906s do not handle well the weather of Spain,at least there are a couple of 440 here ,wich had to swap to aluminium because they had detonation troubles  in the hot summer  days.

About the compression ,since i have to remove the heads,i suppouse to remove the pistons and change the rings will worth the Job&Money. :icon_smile_question:

Thanks
