A guy on the Swedish forum has a -72 Charger and asks why his VIN-number starts with a W and not a X, anybody knows?  :shruggy:
Charger -68 R/T 500 cui Stroker

Charger1973

Because starting in 1971 there were no more 2 door Coronets and the Coronet and Chargers were sort of merged together with the Coronets being the 4 door car and the Charger being the 2 door.  All 3rd gen Chargers have a VIN that begins with a W.

So from Chrysler's point of view, the Charger was really just a two door Coronet?  :stirthepot:

..or the Coronet was just a 4 door Charger  :icon_smile_big:

But then the Coronet would need an "X" in there. :icon_smile_wink:

Either way, if it had 4 doors it was a Coronet not a Charger...

To Chrysler, the 67-74 Charger was always a two door Coronet.
Parts for Chargers are sourced under the Coronet line until the 75 models when the X VIN returned.
