Any supermoto/motard experts here?

I'm just wondering if these bikes began life as a simple enduro bike wheel/tire swapout back in the day. Could you take something like an XL 600 and swap out the knobbies for street tires or is there more to it?

If thats all you want to do is go from dirt to street look into a dual purpouse tire. as far as street legal, local and state laws may differ from state to state. Not an expert but have rode dirt for many years what year is the bike

I don't have one now but for years I rode an '83 XL 500 on the street and I've always liked the tall stance of the street legal dirt bikes. However the knobbies on that XL just about killed me on long rides. Now that these supermoto bikes are all the rage I think I would like one set up that way but I can't spend gobs of money on a newer one.

we have a guy at work that had a 1990 XR 600 put the rear brake light on and rear view mirriorr on got it titled for the road. he still had the dirt tires on and rode the hell out of it till the knobs broke off and blew the tire. Get the dual tires safe plus who knows you may still want to take that dirt road for a ride  good luck

An XL 600 would be a great street bike for tooling about town. My older brother took one in '83 from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to the Tierra del Fuego (tip of South America for those living in Rio Linda) for fun. Actually got a write up in one of the monthly cycle mags. Thing ran great.

I used to race motocross on a lot of Honda's 4-strokes back in the day. All good bikes.

Dans 68. I've heard of a few guys riding they're motorcycles from AK. to lower 48 but that quest then was about the time I was really getting more interested in bikes an cars as well. Very cool ride I bet.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Mark, if I find the article (yes, I still have it somewhere  ::), just don't tell my brother) I'll post it. Cool read.
