Matching numbers 1968 Dodge Charger RT

Dans 68

That would be a nice project.  :yesnod:  Too bad the build sheet is from a 318 car. St. Louis car built July 5th, 1968...probably a lot of treasures in those body panels.     The double transmission stamp is a new one on me. What is the first stamp on the transmission, 8D289656?

That broadcast sheet is in great shape.  Guess no one ever "used" the back seat.

161 images!  There ain't a straight panel on the old girl and the fender tag is not for that car, but it appears the engine and trans numbers match the VIN.

That is the fender tag - Why do you think it isn't?

Oh - I thought he meant an F on the engine top pad. They said it was the wrong broadcast sheet anyway so that don't matter.

He has got a broadcast sheet from a 318 Charger in the picture. I wrote him about that on Friday.
Not to uncommon to find sheets for other cars. I found one for a 6 cylinder Dart in my 68 R/T.

In 1968 the VIN that is stamped on the block and tranny is NOT on the fender tag. The SO number "219966" is on the fender tag
and is also stamped on the core support and under the trunk seal. See the middle pic above.
The only thing that is strange about this car is the broadcast sheet, as it is from another car.

Agreed.  :2thumbs:  In '68 the SO number on the fender tag matches the body stampings (radiator core support and trunk lip) while the partial vin is found on the engine and transmission. Now, the transmission stamp is peculiar in that it seems that the transmission was stamped with another vin initially and then, for unknown reasons, was stamped again with the vin for this car. I asked Doug (69CoronetRT) who said

"I'm thinking the transmission come out of the C body for factory service repair and it was sent back to the dealership as a replacement for the Charger. I'd lean more towards this explaination but I have no idea how that happened."

Aside from this peculiar tranny stamp this is a nice legit St. Louis built car.   :yesnod:

QuoteBuyer is subject to a $299 paperwork fee / dealer handling fee.

That is the fastest thing that will turn me away from any deal. I'm not paying anybody any "paperwork fee" to sign over the title to a car that I was high bidder on.  :flame:

The car does have potential.
