did the 9 1/4 rearend ever come with the clutch type sure grip and if so what did it cone in?

i believe they were all auburn types.  at least all the new 9 1/4's since the late 70's until now have that type of suregrip unit in them.

Yeah from factory with the cone.
Don't know if the aftermarket makes a clutch or other type for it...

most of the newer ram trucks have a flat plate clutch style posi in them. I think they are called a Trac-Loc? Any way they work fine when new but when they wear out the plates break, and the retainers around the ears of the clutchs can come out and damage the differential housing. At least when an Auburn wears out all the parts stay put. BTW I know the term "posi" gets everyone here in a fit but it doesn't matter to me. What eles would you call them if you are refering to all of them in general? "limited slip traction differential"?

the one i have is from a 1975, i dont care what you call it either. thanks
