Hi,

I was just curious to see if anyone has purchased one of these for your Chargers? A friend suggested that I not purchase it because they may leak. But, to those who have actually purchased one, and with experience, how do they hold up? With a good fitting gasket, I'm curious to learn why they may leak:

It's the chrome thermostat housing, part #: TD4987.

Thank you for any replies,
Aaron

Im on my second the first leaked and got all pitted after awhile. Your better off finding a polished alloy one imo.

Mine warped and started leaking. I filed it flat and it was ok for a while then warped again. Did this a few times and then got rid of it.

I went through 3 of those cheap chrome waternecks on my Cad 500 motor before I dropped the coin on a billet aluminum piece. Of course, by then, the cost of the three cheapies was more than the quality one! Needless to say I went ahead and got a nice piece for my 383.

Mine pitted, warped, and leaked.  I put coarse emery paper on a flat surface and ran the waterneck back and forth to flatten it out, however it took a double thickness of gaskets to stop it from leaking.

Same story here, there must be something about the chrome that reacts with coolant I don't know but I had one once some years back and I'll never use another one.

jb666 had one on his HEMI, and he said it always leaked. He got the Billet piece too. :2thumbs:

Never had one that didn't eventually leak. Your talking Mopar not chevy. Right? How much of it do you really see anyway? Bead blast the stock aluminum one and clear it. Then install a set of polished stainless bolts. Thats all you really see anyway. Just remember to use anti-seeze on the threads. Or pay the price and go billet.

Thank you all for the replies...I'm glad that I posted and received some feedback before I actually made a possible purchase!  :2thumbs: I "definitely" appreciate your time posting and I know that I will most certainly pass on getting one of these in the future. Thanks again fellas for your guidance for this newbie!
High regards,
Aaron

Captain D:

I got my waterneck at 440source in case you haven't been there already yourself. $25 seemed hard to beat for the billet piece!

I sanded the chrome off the bottom and used a thin layer of blue Permatex on each side of the gasket. 3 years with no more leaks.
