I see John Schneider is still trying to sell his General Lee yet too. ::)

1971 Plymouth Barracuda found with fake Elvis title

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090306/CARNEWS/903069991

Elvis had a burnin' love for cars--but a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda headed for a Texas auction isn't his.

Organizers thought it was a nice hunk of Mopar muscle bought by the King himself for a female friend. It even had a title with a matching VIN listing one Elvis Aaron Presley as the owner.

But upon closer inspection, the auctioneers say they determined that the title is fake--because it has eight digits instead of nine.

Suspicious minds prevailed.

It's not known where the fraudulent document originated, but the original story is that it was discovered between the carpet and the floor by a mechanic. Auction organizers would not release the name of the current owner of the car.

"We had done everything we could on our end. . . . We definitely don't want to mislead anyone," said Jennifer Tetley, a spokeswoman for the Dan Kruse-Leake Collector Car Show & Auction.

Now the car will simply be sold as a '71 'Cuda--which for enthusiasts is still a nice pickup. The auction is scheduled for March 21 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Also expected to cross the block: the General Lee. This 1969 Dodge Charger is from the personal collection of John Schneider--better known as Bo Duke. This car is one of four used in the Behind the Scenes with Bo DVD, and it has been used for charities and photo shoots.

Bo, err, Schneider, is willing to talk with or e-mail any serious buyer.

That was his personal everday Charger, I'm thinking this one is something else.  After last years homerun he's probably hoping the lightning will strike a bunch more.

I just don't know what's the deal with Texas.  It seems like too many cars coming from Texas or going to Texas are just scams.  I've been dealing with the State on another car from there and have been told that this problem is out of control.  Lots of cars are shipped out oversees from Texas.   In my dealings with the State over the last few months and those I have spoke with, I think they don't have the man power to get control of this.  :rotz:   The other problem is that some of the laws and codes need to be changed.  They make it easy for scammers to run a business because out side city limits, you can build and sell these cars all day long and not report it to the city, state or T-DOT.  You DON'T even need a lic.  :rotz: No inspections, nothing.  :flame:  This makes Texas a good place to operate a shop.  :rotz:  Changes will be made as they must be to try and get control of this.  According to TDOT there is no limit on how many classic cars a place can sell without a Lic.  THEY DON'T NEED ONE.  In fact, this is strange to me. CB's car is to be shipped to L.A. from here (Vegas) and then it gets shipped from L.A. to Houston and then it goes to Europe.   :shruggy:  Chuck.......  I would be willing to bet that car would have been sold and shipped out of the country.  I have to be honest, I wouldn't touch a car from Texas anymore.
