Steering column problem

I've got a 69 Charger SE (440) with factory power steering.  When turning the steering wheel, I hear kind of a clicking noise and it sounds as if the noise is coming from just behind the steering wheel, and maybe six inches or so downward from the steering wheel in the column.  The steering also "catches" or binds up.  But it doesn't do it every time, but alot of the time.  If you place your hand on the column a few inches back from the steering wheel, you can feel some roughness as the steering "catches".  Like I said, it doesn't do it all the time & when it's NOT doing it, the steering feels great and has all kinds of power steering.  Where do I start looking??   :shruggy:  Thanks!

If it feels like it is in the column then it sounds to me like your fixing to tear the column apart in order to see what the problem is and be able to fix it..
Best of luck

The pre 70 columns are pretty simple. You may have a bearing out or the plastic bushing that rides towards the bottom end. Regardless you need to pull it apart. Also may be better to pull the whole column out to work on it. :Twocents:
