He turned 11 years old back in October, and the last year, he's had more than a few medical issues, such as numerous growths on his body.  Today, I found out there's a good chance he's got testicular cancer.  He's going under the knife on Thursday.  Hopefully, they'll be able to remove it, and hopefully, it hasn't spread anywhere else.  I've had him since I was 12 years old, and he's more than a pet, he's a member of my family.

I hope he will get better and have some good years left with you.  But the time will come when he must go and that is always hard to deal with.  Our dogs give us a special kind of love and devotion and ask for so little in return that their passing is especially hard.  Here's something that was given to me by a friend a few years back after the loss of our then 12 year old Maltese:        Bob

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run
When their time on earth is done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the rainbow bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed.
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
Just for an instant, their eyes have met,
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past.
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over.....together.

"The Rainbow Bridge"  That brought tears to my eyes.  A couple years ago I had to have my 14+ year old Cocker euthanized because of age related illness. The folks at the Animal Hospital sent me a card with "The Rainbow Bridge" on it.

If my "Lil' Bud" isn't going to be on the other side, I'm not going!

There are very few things harder than having your beloved dog hurting or passing away.  I sincerely hope that your dog makes a full recovery.  Few things are more important to me than my dogs, and yes, they are a big part of our family.  The Rainbow Bridge really gets to me.  Best Wishes.

Shadow came through surgery fine, and is resting comfortably at the Vets office.  We'll be able to take him home tomorrow afternoon.  I have tomorrow off, so I plan on spending alot of time with him.

Not a recent one.  There should be one or 2 in the pet thread, somewhere...

He's just laying around the house, moping around.  I suppose I'd be doing the same if my testicles were removed.  He gets the stitches removed in a couple weeks.
