Well I posted the story about the build of my 73 Charger last year and since then we had a small set back. This car is my dads' "fun car" to take out on Sunday mornings to the local doughnut shop meet and greet. A few months ago he got in, turned the key and the motor just wouldn't turn over. We checked the battery and it was fine, so I pulled the plugs and when I got to the last one water poured out, oh NO! Well after speaking to my boss/uncle/professional engine builder he told me "no point in wondering what happened, all you need to know is we can't fix it where it is. It's got to come out" The next weekend my Dad and I took it to the shop I work at and removed it. During the tear down I found I also had a spun main bearing. I was really losing confidince in my ability to do anything to the inside of an engine. The source of the water was because I had aparently over ported one of the intake runners and over the two years enough rust formed to cause a pinhole and when the engine was shutdown hot with the cooling system pressurized it filled one cylinder all the way to the top.

Because the cylinder heads were now suspect and because it really needed more power anyway we decided to look into the products from 440 Source. We went with the 500 stroker kit and the stealth heads. Kept the hyd roller cam just went with a new grind from Claw Smith, 1.5 roller rockers, M1 intake, 750 carb and did a little work to the 440 source heads including the new machine locks. The compression ended up around 10.5. the bottom line is............

528 hp and 591 ft-lbs

We were actually expecting around 550hp but what are we going to do with that much power anyway it's essentially a street car.

I apparently knew very little about putting an engine together but now I know a little bit more plus I got the oppertunity test it on the dyno. I want to say thanks to the guys that helped me out. My dad, my uncle Dan Sromalla, Kim at 440 source, Dan Fultz at Fultz machine and George at Clay Smith Cams.

I attached one of the dyno sheets, My dad has the one with the highest numbers (less timing and more jet). I'll get some more pictures soon. We hope to have it together for MOPARS at the Strip.
