Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Very sad, he was talented and seemed to always be a very positive person when interviewed.  RIP Billy.

RIP, Billy.... Lynyrd Skynyrd was the first major rock act I saw live in '76, the original lineup before the plane crash... always been a favorite of mine. 56 is just too young to go these days.

RIP Mr. Billy Powell, another Free Bird goes to rock'n roll Heaven. I'm as passionate about Lynyrd Skynyrd as i am a Mopar guy, this is another hard blow for us Skynyrd fans. I wish i coulda been around durnig the origional RVZ line up, but i wasn't even born yet when the plane crash happend. I've been fortunate to see the modern era Skynyrd lyve 6 times, the first 2 while Leon Wilkeson was still alive, another great musician taken way to early. I hope this doesn't spell the end for Skynyrd but i don't think there is any substition (not replacement) for Billy Powell, he was one hell of a guy and one of the best keyboardist, he will be sadly missed!

On another rock 'n' roll side note, it was 50 years ago yesterday that the plane crash occurred that killed Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper. Major anniversary of another sad day in music.

Agreed!  I miss those guys as well.  Who knows how music would have been shaped had they not passed...Elvis, etc......

I must have seen La Bamba a million times when I was younger.  Looks like I'll be watching that movie again pretty soon.

I'll do a musical tribute to LS during halftime this Sunday with the tv on mute. Not a Springsteen fan, sorry.

I should have clarified.  I agree with you 100% on that one. I put him in the same category as Dylan and Reed.

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

I find it amusing that the un"official" New Jersey state song is "born to run"

the first verse

In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin' out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run
