71-74 Charger - Front Valance Colour?

A couple of quick questions for someone.  Does the inside (top or engine compartment side) of the front valance get painted the same colour as the car or is it painted black?  Also, what about the hood latch assembly - is that car colour or black?  Finally, what colour does the fender tag get painted?

Thanks

All my '71 had there was primer, some overspray, and a part number stamp.

My car is unmolested with original paint (although sun baked and gone in some places) so it is a good indicator as to what they came from the factory with. Mine is a factory undercoat car so there is undercoating on the inside of much of the valence but you can see it was painted pretty good (more than just an overspray) under the undercoating.

Hope this helps!

body color everywhere... and A GOOD LAYER of paint, not visible primer left anywhere because that panel gets LOTS OF WATER!!!

Like most everything Chrysler did, it seems they were inconsistent with how they painted valances.

body color simple because they aligned all the car and once assemblied and aligned was competelly body color paint everywhere. Front valance wasn't simply OVERSPRAYED like maybe the under body, was actually REALLY painted. What maybe got just oversprayed were the shields

I think if it had a part number stamped on it (not embossed) , it is probably a replacement part. I don't think the assembly line parts had the paint stamped part number on them. This may account for the part being just oversprayed.  :shruggy:

I'm not prepared to rule out that it had been replaced at some point. However, there was some paint on the inside of it, but some of it, such as the very front of the inside, had almost no paint. I don't believe they wasted time, and paint, in the assembly plant ensuring the inside of the valance got a proper coat of paint. The way it's designed, it doesn't trap water. Even just bare metal on the inside, that part would take a very long time to rust through.
