I noticed some antifreeze leaking from the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold. Ant ideas what could cause this? Can the engine (318) be ran with the covers off?

You can run it with a valve cover off but the rockers will sling oil everywhere. Remove the valve cover, you shouldn't need to run it to find the source of the leak. One of the valve cover bolts might be the source of the leak.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Does the bolt tap into the head that deep? If it is just the bolt will a sealer work?

I don't think the bolt hole should go to water but if it does, sealer will stop the leak. I would drain the coolant level to below the bolt, clean the threads and seal the threads with RTV.

I tightened up the bolt and it stopped. Should I still take the cover off and have a look?
