So James Rockford almost traded his Trans Am, I mean Firebird, in on a Charger?

I really liked Rockford Files.  My favorite secondary character in it was Angel Martin----he was always trying to scam Jimmie---and everyone else.  I recall an episode where Rockford asked Angel if he wasn't supposed to be attending the psychological encounter group (his punishment by the court for stealing silverware at a party I think).  Angel said that if he wanted to hear gaff from a bunch of bannanas he would go down to the produce department at the Safeway.

Now, sadly, it's 65 channels and nothing on.

Seeing Chargers in those old films makes me think they are timeless.  They seem just as cool now as they did when they were new.

"Listen up Rockfish"

I forget the guys name that always called him that but he was funny too. And he should have picked up that Charger. Seems like they said he was the hammer of cell block C or something if I remember. Was it Issacc Hayes?

The bugle sounds the charge begins. But on this battlefield no one wins.

YEP Isaac Hayes, his character was Gandolph "Gandy" Fitch.

Rockford's car was NOT a T/A, it was simply a Firebird, They were specially built for the show by Pontiac, there were 400s and 455s, with a couple of four speed cars as well, and all were Trans Ams underneath. Apparently there was a plan to change the cars on the show but Garner nixed that idea, he REALLY liked the cars and did a bit of his own stunt driving and made it clear that the Firebird was THE car he wanted to use.

For those that DON'T know, James Garner did quite a bit of sports car and off road racing and was actually a very capable competitive driver.

IIRC, he was also the one who insisted that Rockford would have the regular Firebird and not a Trans Am.  Something about the characters salary that Don Johnson never got (yeah yeah I know the cool unobtainable cars were explained away in both of Johnsons cop shows).

Man AIN'T THAT the truth!!!! There are so few really good shows in TV now, really good shows from the past make a big statement.

Need one of those TVLand marathon weekends, Rockford and Mannix one whole weekend!

Cool clip, never seen that one before.  I was watching Manix one day (always had Mopars ) and a 69 Charger R/T I think T5 white stripe comes rumbling by the camera pulling into a lot.  So cool.

So here's a thought?  How come I don't see those silver vertical lines on the grille fins?
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.
