I took the entire grille apart as far as it would come apart and cleaned each piece individually with warm water and dish soap and a toothbrush.  After rinsing it off, I wiped down the silver area with some wax & grease remover, then shot the paint right over top.  I did the fins & headlight doors without wiping them down with wax & grease emover just because that would have been an incredibly tedious process...which I don't have patience for.  It came out pretty good though.  No runs, fish eyes, etc.  After I painted it, I left it dry.  No clear cloat, just the paint.

Me too.  I also washed all the parts in my dish washer for 2 complete cycles.  No clear and it looks like raw paint and lasted well. ( So far ).
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I sandblasted my doors very lightly under low pressure.  Then laid down lots of primer, paint, no clear.

Nice bumper. Is that reproduction or re-chromed?
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

Clearing them isn't absolutely necessary......I prefer to go above and beyond necessary. And I would be willing to bet Mine will still be looking new a long time from now.  :Twocents:
