How do you read the clock on the side of the engines?

I tried taking a photo of the clock on my engine once but it didn't turn out good because of the rusty dirty color. But since I've cleaned it I can see it perfect when I look at the block. It has 8 dots on it. The pointer points to the 6th dot. The D/N pointer points to D. Does that mean it was cast at 6am or 6pm? How do you read these things?

D and N refer to day shift and night shift.  I believe that in your case it means 6am.

From what I understand the dots and pointer are the number of pours in a shift (day or night shift). If the pointer points to the 2nd dot it was poured on the 2nd pour of that shift with no particular time reference.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

That would make more sense as far as making sure how many times a mould had been used and that would be the important part from their quality standpoint.
