well, i haven't been around too much and here's why...  i've seen and heard from friends that national media wrote off Hurricane Gustav since New Orleans and it's levees survived..let me say baton rouge was hit HARD..never knew 90 mph wind could do so much damage.75% of baton rouge and surrounding areas stilll have no power and may not for 3-6 more weeks. it feels like caveman times around here.. luckily everyone i know is ok, some have trees in their houses, buildings etc.. to my knowledge no mopars were destroyed.. we were running off a generator for days.. well we decided to go stay with my wife's family in east louisiana they just got their power back. it was a pretty crappy birthday today spent all day cutting trees, raking, chainsawing..finally got my parents house cleaned some.. my place is next.just thought  i'd share we are going through some pretty difficult days here..could DEFINITELY have been worse.. just been a little depressing lately..and most people are like.. what?the hurricane hit you guys??? you have no power?? seems like it was hardly a story.. keep us all in your thoughts... i sure do miss my internet and electricity..

WOW.....stay positive!  :icon_smile_wink:   You're right, it seems the media has written off this story and moved on the other things.  These events take a LONG time to get things back to normal...and to most people, unless they've seen it first hand, or live there....its forgotton pretty fast. Don't worry buddy.....WE won't forget about you!  :2thumbs:

That sucks. Glad to hear your home & garage are still standing, though.
Glad to hear you made it to another birthday, too. Hang in there, Trav.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yeah. Reminds me of when Rita hit east Texas/west Louisiana. There was sooo much major damage between Beaumont and Lake Charles but all the media could continue to talk about was NO and Katrina. Heck even Mississippi and Katrina didnt get any coverage (and thats where the most severe part of the storm hit). The media just loves drama and the majority of NO residents gave it to them. These other areas do not give the media drama even in times of crisis, so they act like nothing ever happened. When Allison hit Houston in 2001 the entire downtown area of Houston flooded just as bad or worse than NO. Parts OF many major highways had 18 wheelers completely submerged (and this is in town). People were stranded on overpasses and rooftops; some even for days. But since most residents worked together to get over this tragedy instead of loot and shoot at choppers and then blame the president, this event faded to distant memory almost overnight (and alot of these people were just as poor as the ones in NO). I bet most people have already forgotten about the major flooding in the midwest earlier this year (except those who live there).

I just got back home from dallas yesterday. Baton Rouge and all the surrounding areas, man were they hit HARD. tons of houses flooded, LOTS of damage.

thankfully, I live in a pretty good area across lake ponchartrain but I still had to come home and clean up plenty.
After that, since it had already been a week before the storm that I had driven the Charger, I did so last night, relaxed me right away. I found a classic car friday meet by accident! which was pretty neat, just cruising and all of a sudden seeing quite a few classic cars in a parking lot, I just had to go and see what was going on. Felt like a king rolling up, lots of people crowding around my car and giving compliments a plenty (even though it's a little rough looking AND dirty at the moment), met some cool guys, saw some VERY cool cars.

I know plenty of peeps in BR that got hit pretty hard, without power and some staying around here for the time being, we got electricity back in about a day-day and a half. I'm not surprised at the lack of tv coverage, after all, its all about the republican convention and palin, her babies and since new orleans is ok, it's like who cares?

I dont see why people still move back where hurricanes are yearly occasion. If I don't like living somewhere I move.

there is hardly a place in the US where you are totally free of some kind of disaster. tornado, flooding rains, snowstorms, hurricanes, earthquakes, you name it... look how popular the state of florida.. i'd say by far they are the most vulnerable hurricane state in the US.. now new orleans.. below sea level. why people would move back there is beyond me, couldn't pay me to live there

Trav..
Man, that sucks...... I don't have a generator, but I'll be buying a bunch of ice Friday before landfall........ We're about 60 to 70 miles inland.. I'm only concerned now with the 3 pines around my house............. I'm expecting to be activated post-landfall...........
