I have read all the positive experiences people on here have had with Engle cams....So, I have decided to try one. What would be a good grind - cataloged or custom, to run in a stock 440?
Stock rebuild, deck plates, balanced and blueprinted, JE forged pistons (10.5 CR), stock heads with SS valves, exhaust manifolds, stock carb and stock re-curved distributor. Car is an auto, 3.55 Daytona. I want a little more oomph than stock but want a decent idle and vacuum for my power brakes. What valve springs as well? Prefer 3 bolt.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim, you can't go wrong with the old trusty K56 hydraulic grind....it's a real wolf in sheeps clothing !

Very mild lope but it comes alive when you drop the hammer.  ;) Lots of manifold vacuum, easy to tune and no valveguide trimming required. Comp Cams #911 valvesprings drop right on the factory heads and work perfect with this grind. A good match for the stock converter and 3.55 gears in a heavy car....lots of off idle torque and sharp throttle reponse. I would order it with the 110* LSA and 3 bolt flank.  :2thumbs:

Comp Cams "Magnum" timing set is my favorite. I've had issues with more expensive "high dollar" chains stretching after a few thousand miles.  :P

I'm currently having one custom ground from engle. I've been talking to Jeff Patterson in Elyra Ohio
After our conversation and his expertise with an extremelly quick  small block  fast class car. He talked me right into it. The cam I went with is a custom grind based on a similar profile to a 1968 340 4spd cam with taking some liberties on overlap and duration to improve the vacuum issues . Jeef hooked me up with a complete kit ( he's a dealer for engle)

going into a 1971 challenger 340 vert , FC8 deep indiglo with white interior +top AND factory A/C . I should know early summer how it all works out

Hey Ron, Is this the one?

What would be a good push rod to use with this and stock stamped rockers?

Thanks Again,
Jim

Thanks to Ron's suggestion, I run the K56 in my 440.  Great cam with plenty of low end & great vacuum for power brakes.
Only difference is that I had mine ground at 108º & a single bolt.

With a 2800rpm stall & 3.55's Ive run a traction limited 13.55 @ 103 with my Charger so far

That's a good time for sure. With traction that MPH should be a very low 13 at the least. Can't wait to try it!

Can't wait to see your results, I want one of these too. :yesnod:

Only ran the car 5 or so times....more practice & I agree low 13's should be possible

Yep, that's the cam Jim !  :2thumbs:

A good 5/16in heavy wall chrome moly pushrod is plenty for that cam profile  :yesnod:

I'm sure there is a 12.99 hiding in there somewhere....get those 60ft's into the 1.90 range with a set of Drag Radials and you will see it. Your MPH is allready good for high 12's Chris  ;)
