Houston area road test

I'm new to the country (just moved here from London), new to the city (seems pleasant so far) and new to the car (finally collecting her from the shop today having only had a week of driving time since I bought her in May). I'm looking for somewhere quiet and with enough road to get to know my car better. I'm not looking to break the landspeed record or get up to major mischief but I am used to driving modern performance cars (Ferrari's, Aston's, Porsche &c) that know about handling and a getting to know you session with my new '72 would be sensible I think. I drove her back from OK without issue but I was deliberately sheepish with my right foot and just took the highway straight down. So can anyone in the area give me a headsup on some fairly local decent driving roads? Twisties I can do without, but somewhere open-ish would be great as Houston city traffic isn't really ideal for what I have in mind. I've heard the hill country is great but I'm not looking for a full day trip just yet. Thanks all.

I live in Cypress off 290...  If you travel up 290 towards Hempstead, you can get some open roads out there...... If you're new to the area, I'm the Vice-Prez of the Houston Mopar Club Connection and own a few Chargers myself..   :icon_smile_big:    ........................ What part of Houston do you live in?

Thanks Troy. I'm in NW Houston, pretty close to Jester exit of 610. Only been here a couple of months so it's all new to me. Would I want to get off at the Hempstead exit itself or just head up that way?

Not sure how long of a ride you want, but you could take 45 North to Huntsville, Catch 190 East to Livingston (Bring your fishing pole if you like to fish). Once you catch yourself a mess of fish at the Lake in Livingston you can head south on 59 and then head back to Houston. Probably a 4 hour run. Maybe 200 miles.

If thats a little too much, You could run to Conroe, Across 105 to Cleveland and then back down 59. That would probably be an hour or two run.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Carrots

Short hand for etcetera (at least where I come from  ;) )

An Archaic abbreviation to be sure but then I am rather old fashioned.

ps. I am now using sidewalk instead of pavement so that is one I have under control

&c is very dear to my heart from my days as a philosophy student so will be one habit that I'm going to try and hold on to. It would appear that I need to trade language in for a set of six shooters however..... "the times they are a changin' " &c  :icon_smile_big:

Language, humour and good manners I'm good at. Twatting overgrown and dishonest mofos I'm not. Pity really.

You should hear me when I'm wearing a smile. Quite the entertainer. England is OK, but aside from all of this obvious trauma Texas has its plus points. My Dali-esq moustache is going down a treat although I fear we are heading dangerously off topic.

Funny again,  I can't grow a real mustache myself.  :2thumbs:
