I think I already know the answer to this, BUT were there 318 R/Ts? I thought I read somewhere in these threads that you had to get a 440 or larger to have an R/T?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1968-Dodge-Charger_W0QQitemZ110263934198QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110263934198&

Guy says it has all the original equipment including the 318. So either the motor is not right or the emblems are?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, R/Ts came with 440s and 426s....never 318s.

Atleast thats what I was told on here a few years back.

As long as it ain't a repop, check the vin. Ask for the numbers on the radiator support and the trunk lip as well. But as far as I know, there were no 1968 R/T's with a 318. I also believe R/T 's had one more leaf on the right? side. Check that out. Good luck.

R/T Cars were only 440 or 426 engines.  This car is NOT a real R/T.  The VIN number gives it away.  He lists it as "XP" in the first two digits.  Thats a base model.  If it were a real R/T (albeit with a non-original engine) the first two digits of the VIN would be "XS"

That steaming pile of car poo isn't worth 1 K let alone 5.......what a POS.

ANY year R/T came standard with a 440. The ONLY optional engine was a 426 Hemi, with the 440 sixpack added in 70 and 71......Base motor was a 440 4bbl regardless.

It looks like the R/T was removed from the auction.  I see it in the pictures, and not in the description.  Maybe it is a 440 and he thinks it's a 318?????

Did the auction say it was an R/T? I didn't see that anywhere. It does have an R/T emblem on the headlight door but maybe they replaced the grill a long time ago? Other than that, they listed the VIN so it's not like they're going to fool too many people.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Think the cat did nothing more than what I did when I was 16 back in '82. I just put on "R/T" emblems because they looked cool........  :icon_smile_big:

I'm pretty sure its a small block, the distributor looks to be on the firewall side of the engine.

Geez, some people are harsh - and a bit out of touch. Just the grill and front seats are worth around $1,500. Plus, the door and dash pads look nice, there's a wood grain wheel under that cover, it has a jack(!), and it has an uncut radio bezel. It also has a clear rear window so if it's not scratched...

The only non-440 or Hemi R/T ANYTHINGS that I know of were the R/T 383 Challengers. (and you could also get a 340).
