If I purchase a 1969 dodge charger that does not have a suregrip rear, how do I go about adding it?
Do I have to find a junked charger that hhad a SG rear end, or do I buy some type of kit?

Does changing it hurt the value of the car similar to how a non-stock engine or tranny hurts the value?

Thanks so much!

you have several different options.  you can get a new carrier in just about any flavor of surgrip you want. locker, clutch, or cone style. you can ltry and find a good used unit, you could get a complete used center section. or you can call several different vedors that will sell you a new ( or newly freshly rebiult) center section.  id contact cass  (aka drdiff).

as far as the value goes........its nothing you cant reverse easy enough.

That's one thing I can't ever see how adding one can reducing the value of a car.  It's not a matching numbers thing, it can't be seen, it can be removed rather easily, and it adds performance.

I believe a lot of vans/trucks had some great/desriable rears in them(3.55 sg)
Just find a center section(also called chunk or pig) and bolt her in.

you can get em used on ebay all day long but you gotta be patient to get em' at the right price.

I've bought a 3.23 cone style(currently in my car) for $200 and a 3.91 clutch style(going in my car coupled with Jamey's[RD's] tranny he built me...that thing is gonna fly...but hopefully not back in a ditch :D) for I think $250.

here's some good info for ya.

What are you looking at for a gear ratio?

Keep your original in a 5 gallon paint bucket filled with oil if you are worried about value.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
