'69 Charger R/T street/strip model--UPDATE 2/6/09

I'm building this '69 Charger R/T Street/Strip. This will be a combination of kits. The drag stuff from a '68 R/T kit (the kit I'm using for Mr. Angry) and everything else from a '69 R/T kit. I'm using a spare '68 body I got because removing the vinyl top and trim from the '69 body was too much work.. I removed the drip rail and belt moldings. This is also my first time removing and hinging a trunk lid.










I still have a lot of sanding work to get it looking right.

I sanded down the rear slicks a bit. I learned this trick from my dad when I was a kid......

Nice job opening the trunk.  Opening & closing panels is a b*tch but it looks great if you do it well. 



The best luck I ever had with that operation was the get a sacrificial body for parts: 

1.  Destroy the trunklid of the "keeper" body during removal.  Sacrifice it for the sake of preserving the edges on the quarters perfectly. 

2.  Then take a donor body and do the opposite.  Sacrifice the quarters & filler panel in order to keep perfect edges on the trunklid you're removing. 



Another big selling point on opened panels is the visible thickness of the sheetmetal at the edges.

Just any case anyone is wondering, this is how I'm currently getting money for my Charger and Duster stuff. I'm building 3 models for people right now (and more are on the way). I don't have a set price, just what people feel is fair...which so far has been $10 an hour. So if you'd like a model built, feel free to send me a PM. I plan on making my own factory looking trunk mat but with a battery box. I'm also making a fuel filler tube. The idea behind this model was basically a street car with factory touches but also custom and drag parts too.

looks good. I used to build little models but grew out of it (no time) My little brother is picking up though

when i was your age and a little younger i made models as gifts for folks of their actual cars, i did a yellow '65 vette convert, a x-3 black ' 69 Caprice and a red and white '68 RR...
if you want another challange.. try using a hot spoon to radius the front wheel wells Nascar style.... 
i don't belive my eyes are good enough to do it anymore and my hands are no longer steady,.. don't get old kid...

Looks awesome.

I "built" (Bought the red 68 1/18 RTL release and changed rims and added stickers) an exact copy of my real car....its so nice to just stand and watch it during the winter.

Just some minor progress. Detailed the rollbar (fire extinguisher & padding). I also detailed the taillight rings.

So...some "de-progress". When I went to Vancouver, I took this kit with me. Somewhere in my travels to my grandparent's house there, the carpeting I put down peeled off. So I have to re-do it but I'm keeping this for fun:




Just some test fitting. The trunklid fits great after cutting it out:




I also bought some brass tubing so I can make working trunk hinges.
