can someone educate me on the body differences (even if ever so slight) between these two cars only a year apart?

71 SE

The only difference I have found on 71 vs 72 is the side marker openings so different fenders and some say a different hood becuase the louvers are completly across vs a almost across.

Also the 72 SE has the plug covering part of the 1/4 window.  The bumpers are slightly different in regards to bumper jack slots.  The hideaways are slightly different design but will still interchange.  The standard grilles and taillights are different between the 2 years.  There are many more but thats just a few off the top of my head.

didnt the 71's only have the headlight wiper option on hideaways and not 72's?  71's fm radios went to 104 and 72's and up went to 108.  71's got a hemi, and 72's didnt (as far as we know LOL).  r/t died in 71 being replaced by rallye.  no superbee in 72.  i know you only asked body wise, but here is one... hoods are different in regards to vents by cowl... 72's had a space in between the vents.  71's (early) had them all the way across and 1/2 year point went to space and all the way across dependent upon manufacturing plant.  taillights different.

a couple of more, differences are, 72s have underhood braces that 71s didn't have. 71s have spoiler cut outs on the trunk lids that most 72s didn't have and theres a deference in the trunk floors bettween 71 and 72 to name a few more.

:iagree:71's and 72's almost everything body wise will interchange, have to modify the side lenses on fenders or quarters. The se 72 has diff. side qrter glass but i think only on the full vinal cars. but all body lines are same.

seatbelts are diff:
shoulder and lap belts, use two diff buckles, one to each one on 71
shoulder hooks on male lap terminal and then this one hooks on just one female buckle on 72s

No seatbelt buzzer or wirings on 71. Advertising light is time delay flasher controled. On 72 retractors and seat have sensors relay controled to shoot the light and a buzzer

( I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW OR REMEMBER THOSE ONES HUH ? LOL )

first half 71 year center console has a big opening on rear to storage the female bucles. Then 2 half 71 year and 72 have an ashtray

fisrt half 71 year use diff seat back frame and panel.. Second half 71 year uses the same than 72 and earliers.

Diff seat covers design and foam too

Due the seatbelt sensors, tranny harness is slightly diff on 72 because the NSS signal need to enter in to the cab to make the seatbelt warning system to work when you gear the tranny. That makes also runs on diff cavities of bulkhead the A/C wires

6 bows headliners in 71, 4 bows in 72s ( even I think some 71s were 4 bows )

then as stated, concelead lights were diff on looks but works the same. 72s with more vertical fins and no dodge badge on headlight door like 71 did.

of corse diff tail lights and grilles setups.

THE MAIN AND EASIER WAY TO MAKE DIFF is the sidemarkers. recesed and splitted in 71, what makes also that diff on fenders and quarters

slotted bumpers in 72 to jack

and some more what has been metioned, like the quarter opening filler plug on 72 and full vinyl on SEs case, what makes diff then on upper rear and sail panels and drip rail lenght and molding

Upper 71 SE panels are lot ornamented. 72 are extra padded and with pull hangers ( because brougham package, where first appearence was in 72 )

TruckDriver

I have a section in my all third generation forum that explains all differences for all third gens. But other then the side markers, the '72 SE side window plugs, and some engine/performance differences, and model options, they are the same car.
