Rockers shifting?

Set up my lifter preload today, and noticed that my rocker was a small amount away from the rocker shaft hold down.  When I turn the motor over by hand it seems to go back towards the hold down when that valve is not engaged.  I tried using the spacers to shift it back over.  Is there any way to fix this, because I'm sure it's going to be a problem later?  Could it be that my pushrods are hitting my intake runners? (although I had clearanced the runners a little bit). I've got 3/8 pushrods.  Thanks for your help guys and sorry for the massive amounts of questions lately.

Paul,

How much sideplay do you have between your rockers ? Often spacers are used to center the rocker over the valve tip....and there are lots of different thickness spacers available....some as small as .015

The pushrods rubbing is another issue that needs to be corrected. This is not uncommon with a thicker 3/8 in pushrod....

I've got about .062" of sideplay. Who makes a 5/16" ball/cup pushrod for a 400?

That's too much sideplay....with an aluminum rocker it should be .030 or less. Check with the rocker manufacturer to be sure and order up some shim spacers.  :Twocents:

Lots of different companies sell a lowdeck ball/cup hyd pushrod.....Crane & Comp Cams come to mind.

I've got Mopar Performance rockers on it.  The date on the box was '88.  From what I have heard they're Crane Golds? I've got spacers for it, I'll just try to shim it up as much as possible.

Been trying to find those pushrods and having no luck.  8.575" is what I'm looking for correct?

Paul, give Comp or Crane a call and outline the build....they will supply you with the correct pn and you can order it from Summit  :Twocents:
