I recently received info on a proposed project to reproduce the correct valve cover breather grommets for both the pcv valve for 1967 and later. As well as the crankcase  breather grommet used on all 1970 and later..
Target retail is in the $15 to $16  each price range.  Current retail on the still avail., but incorrect Mopar piece is just over $5 each. aftermkt is similar priced.
So,,,, would you pay 3 times the current price to have it correct ?

I know I would like to see them in the market,  but question is,, is it viable to tool up for a product thats technically still avail. Essentially the  target market is the OE level crowd. Some people simply do not care provided it works, appearence is secondary.

I would really like to see these come to market, but unless enough interest is generated the project will be canceled.

I don't know, you never hear people saying, "OH, it's got the wrong valve cover grommet" when they're disecting a car.

But, if I was in the market I would buy the OE correct just because.  :-\

:iagree:  me too makes sense :yesnod:  but there are probably a lot more people that would say a grommet is a grommet   ::) & go for the cheaper one

this is part of the reason parts are less available to us mopar people .....someguys will spend 3000.00 on a set of bling 20 inch wheels but complain about a nice repro part

Correct me if I am wrong but the difference with the current Mopar ones is the fact that the grommet is raised up in the center where it should be flat correct?

I agree with the others...I'd buy one "just because"

Correct !

This world needs better, accurate repro Mopar parts. For a stock resto, I'd rather go with an absolute "correct" repro part, than a "close" superceded NOS one.
For those people that don't care what their grommets look like, then they'll still have the $5 incorrect part to use.

I say, bring on more correct parts!!!

I'd be interested in purchasing one at a min, possibly two just to have a spare around in case I was working on the car and lost the damn thing.  Sadly, I speak from experience.  You can NEVER have too many spare parts.

me.. i wouldnt buy one.  then again, i am not a "correct" part type of guy, but more of a pro-mod, so little intricate correctness is totally irrelevant to how much horsepower my engine makes.  there is a market though, albeit a very small one.  hopefully you can make a profit off of it, but i would be more apt to purchase a $3 component rather than a $15 one just because I really do not care what grommet goes on a valve cover, especially when a breather covers up the numbers.

again, i may be in the few or the majority, i really dont know.

I would buy one. Although in reality it would probably just sit on a shelf in the garage for about 10 years after I bought it, but I would still buy one.

Bill,

I actually need a correct grommet for the Daytona, but from looking at the originals there's one thing different - the original on my set of '69 valve covers has a DPDC logo rather than a pentastar.  From what I'm hearing, the assembly-line parts were more likely to have the DPDC marking.

Any movement on these?  I may have a line on a NOS/correct piece, but it's not for certain.
