Sweet looking ride. Gotta love any Daytona, but I gotta admit that I do like the F6 green.

Neat story & ride of the month Dave.

Curious, was the horizontal piece in front of the top radiator support painted while on the car?  I was wondering why there's paint on the vertical rad. support area?
Were the wing cars front support area still blacked out even though they were outta view from the outside?

BigBlockSam

i've seen that same thing on several differant daytonas. i believe they welded the top z bracket support bracket  to the rad support . then just covered over the weld with spray paint. Rene
I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

The paint above the radiator is partly from Hamtramck's radiator yoke blackout application.  Whatever they happened to spray up there is at least some of what you see.

The piece that is spot-welded onto the radiator support was normally painted black (not sure of whether on the car or off, I'll have to check), but some cars' pieces were left bare.  My car's an example of that - so on it, you'll see black overspray over R4 red on the yoke, and then a bare metal spot-welded piece that the latch tray is bolted to.

I'll ask Vance sometime about when that support piece is painted.

You mean that the latch tray bracket was left bare steel?
I guess that shouldn't surprise me since they didn't bother priming, e-coating or even painting the backside of the nose.
They just couldn't fathom that these cars would actually go up in value. I can remember when I sold my 69 SS Chevelle in 1977, thinking that it would be worth less and less until it would just be scrapped out. I bought it back exactly 20 years later and gave more for it as a rolling shell than what I sold it for as a complete low mileage nice car.

They did let a few slip through that didn't have paint on that bracket, however the majority of them had it painted black. Gene's car is one of the exceptions that didn't get the black paint.

And the radiator support area, under the latch tray?

Oh and thanks for the previous replies.  :2thumbs:

Here are a few examples to compare to.

green car is a survivor.

red car is in my opinion one of the nicest restored cars around, and that is if you include all cars, not just wing cars. Its a piece of work.
