Guys,

I am looking at getting a set of Schumakers tri Ys for my 71 Charger and would like to know which is better for keeping heat down in the engine compartment.  Thermal or ceramic coatings work best?

Also, I had a pair of these on my 71 Duster nickel plated a couple years ago and they looked great for about a year.  Then they started to discolor.  :flame:

Will the ceramic or thermal coating help keep the headers from discoloring?

Any ideas?  :icon_smile_question:

Thanks!

Ghoste

Although they still need care, the ceramic coated are much tougher at resisting discoloring than nickel or chrome plated headers.

Hmmmmm, interesting question, 71 , ceramic or thermal. I bought some of those cheapy ceramic coated headers from Summit. I have bought about six sets so far. I like em. Was amazed at how much heat was held inside the tubes. You can almost touch them before you feel the heat compared to standard headers. Much less heat inside the motor compartment and the plug wires seem to  last longer.  Out of the six sets , only one seems to be slowly crapping out. I can tell something was not done right before they were sprayed or dipped.  Summit said , oh ,well no warranty.   Would also love to hear someones experience with thermal coated headers............
