Does all power run through Alt on 73?

I am not as familiar with the 3rd Generations as the 2nd.  Does all the power run through the Bulkhead and Alternator Gauge as it does on a 69?  The reason I ask is I had a meltdown at the bulkhead today, no flames but lots of smoke.

I looked at harnesses from YO.  Almost 600 big ones!  Anywhere else got them cheaper?

Everything except the starter main current goes through the ammeter in the dash (and the bulkhead).  I've straight-wired an 8-gauge wire through the bulkhead and my next bit is going to be electrically turning the ammeter into a voltmeter with some elec eng magic...having all electric power (less starter) going through the instrument panel is not my idea of a good design.

yes all the same like a 69, except they are now electronic regulator.

Good write-up on the parallel wires, Natcho.  I am also going to re-fabricate the main splice as well...that was really crappy workmanship and an electrician's nightmare!
