People think we still have the second amendment (barely) because we've kept the govt from taking that power away from us or something. 



I disagree.  I think the only reason the govt hasn't yanked that right away from us a long time ago is because that right not longer holds the real power that it once did. 

In this modern era, a bunch of citizens with handheld firearms are no longer any threat to the Federal govt's military power.  What are we gonna do, start a militia and refuse to be taxed next april?  Are we gonna use the 2nd amendment to overthrow this Federal govt that has nuke-capable stealth bombers and armed tank brigades?  If it still gave the citizenry the right to pose any real threat the Fed's sovereignty over us, IMHO the govt would have overturned the 2nd amendment decades ago. 


These days our "right to bear arms" is really only useful fo us to rob each other (not the govt) and to get ourselves arrested & jailed over the violations.
