Autometer Volt gauge problem...

I have a brand new voltage gauge in my Charger, I noticed today while driving it that the reading was slowly creeping up to just about 16v (see pic)
I pulled over and hooked up my volt meter to the battery and while idleing the voltage would go up to 14.7 volts and then slowly drop a volt or two and then back up to 14.7 volts.
This was with no accessories on except for the gauge lights.
Whats wrong?
