Hey everyone. I have had some things happen in the last little bit that have put me down. My doctors want me to try some SSRI's. I want to do some research on them before I take them. If I could hear any first hand or other experiences with SSRI's. I would be very thankfull. I would like to know things such as dependency, Actions, feelings and anything.  I need to know this before I take them. You can Email me at E5875RC@yahoo.com if you rather. Thanks in advance.            Jeremy

Lets say I would do some research, too often I personally have seen these drugs do more dammage than the problem they were taken for.

That being said, I do not know your situation and can only assume your MD knows your case much better than I do.

I also IMHO believe they should not be taken LONG term......

I do wish you the best.

:iagree: Man, if I popped a pill every time I got bummed, I'd be a pill-poppin'-druggie! :errr:

I won't claim to know what's going on, but chances are, you can work through whatever it is on your own. It may be rough for a while, but it won't last forever. We learn from our mistakes & life's problems that are thrown our way. How else are you going to learn from the problem, if you don't deal with the problem? The problem will keep coming back until you learn how to deal with it. Once you've mastered the problem, the next time it comes up, you can deal with it in 3 seconds & move on...no biggie.
You can do it. :2thumbs:

...or just go dive into a bottle for a few. After being tired of so many hangovers, you won't want to do that anymore & you'll just deal with the problem. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

It's not that easy.  I'm having an issue with it myself and it's not as simple as being sad or bummed out.  It's like being swept up in a current that you can't get out of and part of you is still on shore watching the whole damn thing happen and you want save the drowning you but can't find anything to help which only makes the current stronger which makes you panic more to help which makes the current stronger which...
Wife and a close friend are pushing hard for me to see a doctor more as well and the guy on shore wants to but the guy in the water starts screaming for him to stay each time he wants to leave for help.
In my case, it's not like one issue that has me down it's just a bunch of stuff massing together and your brain starts running away on you.

I'll admit that things look different to the one that it's not happening to & am basing my assumptions on myself, so I'd better stop assuming. Sorry to hear that Ghoste, I didn't know. I hope you can be well soon. :)

I will say that some people definitely benefit from some medical intervention, but the way things are these days doctors are way too quick to prescribe something to mask the symptom, than they are to actually work on the problem...especially on kids. Waaaay too many kids are being fed Ritalin & other crap than is needed. Kids need to be allowed to be kids, without having their emotions numbed by drugs.

C-stripes is an older kid, if I recall (late teens/early twenties) & that was what I based my initial post on. What I'm eluding to is that this ain't the first time I'm gonna be wrong on something...in fact, it happens frequently. Just ask my Wife.

I'm working through it and I'm sure I'll be fine and I hope stripes will be too.  Truthfully I don't like baring my soul about it on here but I did want it known that it isn't as simple as just feeling down.  It's much less emotional than it is your head twisting you around.
I won't even dare pretend to be inside C-stripes head only that I understand his fear of the drugs (which is why I completely know where you are coming from too Chargerfan) as it's one of the things that makes me resistant to more help.

Thanks for all your help guys.  Right now I don't know what to do. At the end of January something happend to me and I have not been the same since. I have real bad depression, my moods change at the drop of a hat. I don't know what to do. I Finlay was talked into going and seeing a shrink. I have been seeing a shrink every week since the end of Feb. Both shrinks I have worked with and a family Dr. tell me I need to get some meds. The thing is is that I have a prior drug history and am very worried to fall back into old habits. I do believe that some meds will help. But I don't want any dependency or major mind altering drugs. Thanks again for your help guys.

Just be VERY careful, those types of drugs, they can be VERY DANGEROUS. ESPECIALLY Prozac. Not gonna give any deep details, but I know someone who became alcohol dependent and suicidal from that crap.

Everyone has a story,,,,or a "he said, she said"......  :eyes:
Depression is very common,,,,,,, :yesnod:
Often people need professional help with psychotherapy,,,,,,AND medication,,,,,,,,,,,this combination is better than either alone........
People are very quick to blame the medication they are given for their deterioration,,,,,,,,,,,as opposed to the underlying disease they have......... :RantExplode:

I think the medications often help....and get people thru some rough times,,,,,,,,and often they are not required long term.............. :slap:

This may not be the solution to your problems, but look into vitamin supplements.

Even if you take some already - figure out what it is.

In my 20's I was told I needed a Vitamin B complex. I got the recommended mix of the Vitamin B's and started taking them as prescribed.

Talk about mood swings!

I'd rip your head off for saying, "Hello" to me and then buy you a coffee.
Anger was the one that really jumped out at me, but I had them all, including depression.

I stopped with the B complex and got a multi-vitamin with the same mix of B's but at a lower concentration, and I was good from there on out.

I'm not completely sold on the whole homeopathic medicine stuff, but I do firmly believe in the natural chemical balance of the brain.  100% of that can be controlled by what you put into your body, maintining your body and providing it with the essentials - water, sunlight, fresh air, etc...

(He says after finishing his chocolate bar while sitting in his basement office... but I did have 2 bottles of water today and I'll get off my duff in half an hour or so..)

I guess if you get anything from this post, it'd be to check what you'd normally call your physical health as well. Some positive changes there may help your mental health.
