BCR Girdle -> windage tray = victory! Oil pickup = defeat :( (update: victory!)

So parts are slowly trickling in.  Latest shipment was dampener, windage tray, and oil pickup.  I figured the windage tray would be fun with the girdle, and I was not disappointed :)
Still, fairly easy fix; just burned up all my dremel cutting wheels :)
Pic 1 shows how it fits now, with 2 detailing the mods necessary (note the six rough holes and the notch in the back rail)

Unfortunately, not so much luck with the oil pickup.  Just as it starts to catch threads, it runs into one of the cap/girdle bolts.  (pic 3).  I figure I could take out the bolt and install the pickup, but then it occured to me that the pickup would sit nearly half an inch up in the pan now anyway, so maybe some sort of 'extension' is in order?  If it's just 3/8" NPT I could just get a nipple and a coupling and it might have dual benefits: adding enough clearance for the bolt and putting the pickup back where it goes in the pan.

The 3/8" nipple/coupling addition worked :)

Some more progress, too - got the front end re-assembled.

I always just do a little "custom bending" modifications to the Pickup ? Especially with Strokers.

Just make sure the sump is still adequately close to bottom of the Pan.

A LITTLE OFF TOPIC, BUT,

The "other" Fix we normally do, is we built a "jig", which Bolts to the Pan Rail, as a guide for the Drll Bit, when converting the 3/8" Pickup for the 1/2" HEMI style.
It "offsets, as we End Mill the Pilot hole, prior to threading at 1/2" N.P.T.
We then Port Blend the Offset hole to the original, Nice and smooth, THEN retap @ 1/2" N.P.T.

Makes much nicer Pickup Clearance, when a Guy wants to run an Internal Pickup, on BIGGER Stroke Cranks.

You'd be amazed "How Big" you can go with an Internal Pickup, and 2.200 Journal.

Bob out.

awseome stuff,

I'm putting a main girddle and windage on my 512 stroker as well, i hope i don't get into this bind, But i'm a welder by trade. cheers, awesome pully set-up too, is it a march system?

defiance

Thanks!  Yeah, it's a march system.  It's great, but not without downsides... The finish doesn't hold up to corrosion as well as most of the aluminum parts I've had, and the bolts are all zinc, but it's still a great system otherwise.

As for the oil pickup, the $3 home depot nipple/coupling combo got it clear of the bolt, and was right around 1/2" added to total length, so it shoudl be about right.  I still haven't sized it with my oil pan, but I expect that any further issues will be easy to deal with just by a minimal amount of bending.
