I am reffering to the metal dash. I have a 69 RT that came with an 8 track . now..the metal part of my dash has the slots in the middle, and the heater box vents on either side of that, but on the 2 far sides I have perfectly formed speaker holes about 3-4" across with 4 small screw holes surrounding them, and 1 3/8 tall parallelogram shaped metal speaker grill..the other is missing. I started looking for a grill as I am re-assembling the dash, but, according to the illustrated factory parts catalog and a couple of suppliers I called, ,these holes should not exist. I am stumped because they look 'factory' very perfectly made.

I am ssuming I have an original dash as the it LOOKS real and has the vin riveted to it unmolested etc.

any ideas? was this an 'option' because of the 8-track? dealer-modified? it looks waaaaaaay to perfect for it to be a 'JnJ auto and pool supply' done job.

anyone else have these extra holes and grilles?

of course, I dont have a clear pic.

MMmmmmm 3-speaker dash!!

The trick is to get the "stereo" module that's installed above the glove box.

JimShine

I have a couple of those boxes. The one from the car above is shot (as is the rest of the car). The car above was actually a bit odd. It is a factory 3 speaker dash and rear 2 speaker with fader configuration. So it has a total of 5 factory speakers!

surround sound!
mine also has rear speaker holes.

They all came with the speaker holes in the back. When you got the rear speakers, you also got a little fader knob. In 1969 it was on the lower lip of the dash frame below the ignition switch.

I am still kind of weirded out that the guy at Stephen's didnt think these existed. I thought he had 1 million charger parts and was the go-to guy for weird stuff.

anyways, I really really need 1 of these or a pair. any ideas where I might be able to get them? its the very last thing I need to complete my interior.

My speaker grills are mounted with the widest side away from the windshield,  Yep, they are rotated 90 degrees from
what yours are.  May be because mine is a 70 model :shruggy:

Someone likely just put yours back in the wrong way. The screw pattern is square, so you could mount them reversed if you wanted to. They should taper with the largest end toward the center of the dash. It mimicks the arched shape of the dash as it runs along the glass. You can see the footprint of the one Chris posted as well. I have since removed mine. These are not cast metal, but stamped steel so they will rot if left outside.

Thanks!  Good to know.
