How can I tell what type of transmission I have?

I am not 100% sure what type of tranny I have on this thing and I was thinking about looking at some junk yards for a replacement. Whats the best way to tell what type of tranny it is I am about to take off of a junk car?

I always thought it was a 727 that came on my car but not 100% sure because the guy I got the car from pulled the motor and tranny from a chrysler cordoba.

If you are looking at the tranny pan the 904 should be more square and the 727 should have a large inward taper to it. And the 904 will have a short tail shaft compared to the 727.
