Mopar prices seem down, but the prices of the E-bodies, except the AAR Cudas, are really taking a dump.

I am predominantly a Charger fan, but I don't know if I could turn down a 1970-1971 Challenger if that market keeps softening up. I never really cared for them until I saw that Ashton Kuchter (sp?) movie 'Just Married'.

It's a trickle down effect . First are the high priced E bodies next is the B bodies .

Mustangs, Corvettes, Cudas & Challengers are the biggest sellers there. And, I love Mustangs as much as Chargers, so it doesn't bother me.

At one point during the show on Saturday, the commentators talked about "cars bought right" and mentioned that the ones they picked would have sold for twice as much a year ago.   Overall, I think the prices for Mopars are down this year, and the prices for Fords are higher.   I wonder if Ford's sponsorship has anything to do with that, or whether collectors are just tired of paying obscenely high prices for Mopars.

Every year there is a different "hot" car, this seems to be a Mustang year, seems kind of weird to ME that it generally seems to be whoever the main sponsor of the show is, a couple years Mopars went CRAZY, and the show was sponsored by Chrysler, The Mustangs have gone crazy and Ford is the main sponsor.

:shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:

I hear ya. Since Ford is the sponsor and Shelby is there selling his, maybe people figured more Mustang people would be there and so some rare ones showed up and some had a hole buring in their pocket :shruggy:

I didn't realize their were so many models.  Boss 302, 429?, 428?, Shelby 350, 500, KR, I have no idea.  Then they have new models on top of that.  Then Carrol Shelby sells some from his personal stash that go for, like a billion $$$.  Some car that his son put up got a bunch of money.  I don't get it.  I think all the bidders were suffering from some kind of collective mental disorder.  Whatever.   :eyes:

Ford wise, I thought the 69 Torino Talledega was pretty much stolen for $42000.   :icon_smile_cool:

$400K for the first Challenger, yet the first of the new Corvettes went for $1Million. Go figure.

Oh and yeah cody prefers to not read before posting. Makes life that much more interesting.

I watched the three "charity" cars go through last night and thought the Mustang (with Shelby) and Corvette (with Jay Leno) were much better represented than the Challenger with some women on stage begging for more bids. There were no visible reps from Chrysler and no celebrity helping motivate the crowds. It looked as though even Craig Jackson was embarassed---- didn't he buy the car in the end??
GM even offered to let the winner come to the plant, watch it being built and be the first to start it.

69charger2002

i noticed the exact same thing. they hyped the dog doo out of that 09 ZR1 with the high bidder actually outbidding himself to get it to a million. jay leno offering tonight show press, etc etc. the challenger just comes across. and sorry craig jackson bids $375k over someone's $350. the guy looks stunned, craig says i won't bid against you again though.. so dude bids 385k. then jackson flat out bids $400k and wins it himself. i'm sure more was expected and after his normal "ehh this car is WAY under the money" speech, he decided to bid on it himself to try and get more. what a shady ass

That's not what he said.  He said if the bidder bid $400k he wouldn't bid anymore.  It all goes to charity so good for him.  Although I'm sure it amounts to a nice tax write off.

bzabodyn

funniest moment of the entire auction was when Spanky tried to start the bidding on the General Lee at $1 million...

How many disabled people, celebrities and other types is Craig Jackson going to wheel out on stage in order to sell more cars? And his deal with charirites and tax write offs is just a big joke. His shill bidders must make a fortune as well.

It just seems like a PT Barnum Circus with alot of shady business going on with the E-bidders,pausing to say that this car is "under the money" or what have ya, only to start biddig back up and the car miraculously gains another 50 grand.

And it seems that they dont even want to hardly even show a MOPAR on stage for any length of TV time unless it belongs to a celebrity. I geuss that with FORD sponsoring the event now the cars being auctioned off should only be Mustangs as it seems like every other car is a Mustang on the auction block.

i hate  when a guy just buys an outstanding car and he looks so sad or pissed off. i would be jumping up and down and screaming if i got the car i wanted. i guess they have to much money . Rene
I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

A lot of what goes on at BJ makes some people wonder. Did anyone see the stretch limo,1938 I think, auction? The guy thought he won the auction, auctioneer banged the gavel , and someone bid a higher price. The higher bidder got the car. I thought when the gavel banged, the auction was over. I could be wrong tho.

I saw that too. Even the announcers were questioning that.

Typically at a legit auction once the gavel comes down, that's it. Now, I've seen about an hour and half total of B-J auction footage in my life thus far, and if they treated that Limo ANYTHING like they did most of the auto's they did Saturday night, if somebody slacked enough for them to drop the gavel they deserved not to get it.

Some cars it was like they were desperate not to end the bidding. Everybody seems to have ample opportunity to bid, and if somebody tried to bid as the gavel came down, they either should have give the other bidder the chance to bid back, not just declared the other person having the winning bid (unless their was duplicity on the part of B-J and the bidder which would not shock me at all).
