G'day guys,

on my 71 Charger I'm thinking of leaving the 14 X 7 Magnums on the front and getting the rear widened to 15 X 8.

What i want to know is - Is it ok to do that ? Does it do anything to you driving etc....I wouldn't think so. Does anyone else run this combination ?

Pete, you can do that but I really think you'd be happier with 15's all around. The tires I feel would be noticably different. Summit racing sells 15x8's from "Wheels Vintiques" for under $90.00 U.S.. In todays world with the dollar doing so stellar, that's like $25.00 in Aussie monie right?.....lol

G'day Andy,

Firstly, the disc is away.

Secondly, the dollar isn't quite that good - I wish. $1 Australian gets 90 cents U.S. The trouble with ordering whells from the States isn't the cost of the wheels - it's the postage, which is sometimes higher than the cost of the item.

I'm thinking of widening my current rear wheels. But in trying to keep my budget on track, I though about just changing the rears as it's only the rear i want to fill out. Widening is about $100 per wheel here.

Hi pete, I know of a guy with a 71 rt who widened his wheels and had a good result. Personally, i would go "15's" front and rear (the 14's front and 15's rear is something that was done by some guy's way back in the day). The funny thing is, now some guy's are doing 17 front and 18 rear....

Are you sure you want to cut up your stock wheels? You may want to go back to stock one day, or maybe not? Choice is yours if you keep your stock wheels stock. It would be nice if you found a used set of wheels locally to cut up and refinish. I would personally like to see 15" all the way around. IMO it just looks better. Whatever you decide show us pics.

life's a garden, dig it.

BMOTOXSTAR

I had 14's up front & 15's in the rear on my 73' SE, it looked nice. The front end sat low and the ass was up. :icon_smile_cool:

It looks OK,I bought bmotoxstar's 73 SE off of him.I like 15's all around myself.I'd go 15's all around with a shorter tire up front.I just thought the 14's looked awkward, like the center cap looks too big or something.I like them to sit level,or just a tad lower up front, that way it dont look hillbillyish.Reminds me of airshocks or shackles. :Twocents:

I personally preffer same measure all around, to get the tires rotation!!!

and even I'm on 15s" right now, I think will move sooner or later to 17"s with vintage look. No HiPo ( Real HiPo I mean ) tires with sportier look on 15s, hard to find T speed rate and imposible more, except Pirellis Scorpions Zero, what does look to much truck tire. Still thinking about.

I have 14's in the front and 15's in the back, just a few things  you will a tad bit lower to the ground in the front for them speed bumps, small ledges and stuff like that and if you have headers they hit almost everything thing to. And the Speedo gear is a tad off too. I have been thinking about change it or stay with what I have, since I love the how the rear end sits higher then everyone else and the front end hugs the tires. I can see the street with no problems and it's great too. I can still fit under the car to do some maintenance without any jacks even though I have 14's in the front. The reason why this came up with changing the size of the wheel because I have the original coke bottle wheels that are made of magnesium and if they catch on fire for some reason I can not put them out for nothing.

It's been done many times before... It's your car... Do what you want, not what others want... you can always change it later if you don't like it, no harm done. Besides which, as you know, tire diameter is not governed by the wheel diameter, so any changes in ride height will be determined by your choice of tires, and not your choice of rims.

the only problem i've had is finding a large selection of 14" tires, around here everybody want 15's and up. some 14's cost more than 15's. i'm planning on 15's all around on my 74R/R. but remember you are the one you have to please forget everybody else :2thumbs: Tom
