Differences in length of A & B-body steering columns?

I swear there's a thread here somewhere on this matter, but I'll be damned if I can find it. :shruggy:

Anyhoo, I found a '75 A-body in the boneyard yesterday with a good steering column. Anyone know if I can bolt that baby into my '70 Charger parts car? I'm guessing it's too short.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Aren't '68-70 B-body steering columns getting expensive these days?

It might be worth getting dirty with a welder to make something work, if everything on the A-body column would still look & function like stock inside the cabin of the car.

YES! :icon_smile_angry:

I might give it a try. The steering wheel is definitely different, but the rest could pass for factory looking. Mainly, I just want a column in there so I can steer it with something other than my foot (kicking the tire) as I move it. :icon_smile_big:

Ooohh! I just found someone locally parting a '73 Satellite, That one would probably come closer to bolting in. :)

m/s steering column shaft lengths are the same from 68 - 74, should not be different for p/s ones either.  the housings are different and there maybe mounting differences within the interior.

You are talking about the Satellite, correct?
I still have the bracket that bolts the column to the dash, just no column. So assuming the bracket bolts to the column, I'll be in business. :)

I do believe there is a small difference in length between PS & MS column length. I once thought I would have to find a different column when I change from MS to PS on my 67 GTXr. Finally ran across a tech post on the Moparts web site that stated the inner steering shaft can be adjusted to permit the new steeing box to be hooked up, see the link below from Moparts;

That is correct. There is a difference in length on A-body columns between PS and MS cars.
